A One-Day Community Service Event
Join hundreds of your neighbors from Orangevale and Fair Oaks for one big day of community service. We are going to tackle 20-25 important projects to make our communities better and stronger. We believe that communities get better when they serve together.
Event Schedule - May 5, 2018
8:00 am - 9:00 am Pancake Breakfast & Volunteer Check-in
Where: New Life Community Church (parking lot)
8101 Sunset Ave, Fair Oaks, CA 95628
Gather in the morning for a pancake breakfast, meet your project coordinator and project team for the day, get your Big Day of Service event t-shirt, and get pumped up for a great day. Start the day off right with a pancake breakfast! Find your team and grab a quick bite while we're getting ready for the rally.
9:00 am - 10:00 am Kick-Off Rally
Hear from several local community leaders during a kick-off rally and ceremony to get Big Day of Service started off right.
10:00 am - afternoon Service Projects
After the rally, all volunteers will break into project teams and travel to our project locations. Some projects will be a couple hours, others may be a bit longer. Some project locations may wrap up the event with a BBQ after the work is completed.
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Wrap-Up Fiesta!
Free tacos! After volunteers wrap up projects, we'll meet back at the rally location to celebrate the day's accomplishments with tacos, music, and fun. We'll share photos and stories from a great day of volunteering in the community and close out the day with a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

What is the purpose?
Purpose is to bring neighbors together to create a positive impact in the community and create a ripple of kindness and service. Our community needs something positive to rally behind, look forward to, and celebrate for months to come. Good things happen when people intentionally serve others and do something bigger than themselves. And there are many unmet needs where an army of volunteers could make a big impact in one day.
Who is involved in this event?
A group of 30+ community members -- including representatives from County Supervisor Sue Frost’s office, as well as individual leaders, local organizations, businesses, and some of the area’s largest churches -- has been planning the event and is looking for project suggestions as well as more project leaders and volunteers.
What types of projects will there be?
A wide range of projects will be proposed such as cleaning up public areas, school and park projects, senior care home activities, preparing military care packages, and more. Projects will be in Orangevale and Fair Oaks, have between 10-50 volunteers, and will have a broad community benefit. Projects serving individuals will be considered, but prefer to serve through local organizations. We’re planning to source project ideas from neighbors in the community who see a need and want to work alongside the community to make it better.
